What is a war without any battles? The Civil War had so many battles, I've only chosen two to explain on this website; the Battle of Gettysburg and Fort Sumter. The tactics displayed on both sides made this war a tug-of-war type of war. Back and forth, back and forth, this war wasn't going to be over in a few days.
